What should you look for in a presentation designer?

Presentation design is a niche service area in the graphic design field. While many designers can make your slides look pretty, there are far fewer that have the skills to create slides that increase audience comprehension. You want a designer who understands the big picture. Someone that can condense and edit content to match your audience's expectations. At Big Idea that is what we excel at, and we make your deck look awesome too!

Are there designers who only focus on presentations?

Yes! While I have done lots of different types of graphic design, from websites to branding, my true passion is for telling visual narratives via presentations. This is why I founded Big Idea! Here I get to focus solely on helping professionals in finance, fintech, startups, public policy, planning, and outreach communicate with their target audience.

Where do startups get their pitch decks designed?

Will the final presentation be editable?

Yes, I make it a prime selling point to maintain a high level of editability on the client-side. This means that your future Powerpoint or Google Slides deck will have editable text fields and the ability to swap out images. However, static background elements and custom icons or illustrations may not be editable without my assistance.

What formats do you work in?

I do use Powerpoint, Google Slides, and the Adobe Creative Suite. I do not use Canva, Prezi, Keynote, or any AI-nonsense.

How long do projects take?

Generally it takes 5 - 10 business days. If you have all the content prepared in advance, and review cycles are prompt, then delivery for a final draft in as little as 5 days is totally possible. For brand's and/or agencies that I've worked with before delivery time may be reduced further.

How should I send you my content?

You are welcome to send me draft slides (they don't need to look pretty!) in either Powerpoint or Google Slides. You can also send me content in a Word or Google Doc in outline format. Please send any images or graphics in their native format separately. I will set up a shared Google Drive folder for us to use for this purpose. Also, if you have an existing brand guide, fonts, or logos I will need those too.

Can you do a rush job?

My availability for a rush job is contingent on my existing workload. I will always make an effort to accommodate a rush request (2-day turnaround). To compensate for the quick turnaround I charge an additional 20% fee.

What if I don't have a brand guide or existing template?

No problem! I will take design cues from your existing website or other provided branded materials.

Are the images and graphics you use free me to use elsewhere?

For images, I use a subscription service and pull a license for your company's or agency's use. You are free to use these in any future materials so long as they are for that company or agency. Any graphics I am creating specifically for you, which you are free to use as desired.

My project is sensitive. Can you sign an NDA?

Not a problem. We are accustomed to working with big ideas that aren’t ready to be made public. Just send us the paperwork and mum’s the word.

Do you use generative AI in your work?

For a long list of reasons I do not. For one, you cannot tell where AI is pulling from and it can easily replicate branded materials that are already out there. I want your presentation to be as unique and creative as the business or agency it is representing. Building elements from scratch allows me to do that, whereas with AI I cannot. I also simply believe in the importance of human generated creative content. I do not subscribe to the philosophy that generative AI is necessarily a net positive for humanity. I am a proud supporter of 'not by AI' and adhere to the guidelines here. When you hire us you know you’re getting premium design work that’s tailored just for you.

How do you scope and price projects?

Please refer to applicable pricing table in either the Fintech and Startups page or the Public Policy, Planning and Outreach page. After you send me your initial query I will reach out with any clarifying questions and a materials request (if applicable). Once I have met with you and reviewed your materials and project needs I can provide a cost estimate. If that cost estimate is agreeable I will send a design contract and an invoice for a 20% deposit. With a deposit and signed contract in hand I'm ready to start designing your deck :)
